2024 Reflection: Lessons, Growth, and Goals

Looking back on 2024: what I’ve learned, how I’ve grown, and what’s next.

As I look back on 2024, it’s clear that this has been a year of immense learning and personal growth. After 4 years of riding the university rollercoaster, I have finally graduated from NUS CS! Not only that, I went to China for 2 months to study Chinese intensively in 北海 with LTL! It is a very small city in 广西 that most people will not know about but I have a lot of fun learning Chinese and travelling around southern China during my short stint in China!

Finally, Stepping into a new role as a Software Engineer in Caladan’s OTC Team, I was met with both exciting opportunities and steep learning curves. Navigating a new and complex domain demanded adaptability, perseverance, and a readiness to embrace uncertainty.

Of course, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. As someone new to this domain, I invested considerable time in building my foundational knowledge in OTC trade, technically and financially, such as FIX Protocol, C#, BigQuery, and MySQL from the technical side and RFQ trading domain knowledge in the financial side.

Looking ahead to 2025, I’m eager to contribute more to the RFQ team! To grow as a quant dev that can lead a team to a successful projects that are contributing to the success of the company! I’m grateful for all the lessons learnt and all the support I’ve received! Huat huat to 2025!!

Note: thanks Claude.ai and ChatGPT who have been my best friend in 2024! I am looking forwards to working with you guys more extensively in 2025 as I am exploring Codeium, Jetbrains AI, Cline, Cursor, etc on top of GitHub copilot 😄
